Connecting to economic development
The preservation of industrial railroads is important to the economic vitality of our region. Valley Economic Development Partners has preserved several important rail lines in order to continue to provide this essential and valuable service to the economy.
Economic Development Rail Corporation
In 1985, Valley Partners purchased the 2.75-mile railroad and preserved 250 jobs from Conrail and the Youngstown & Austintown Industrial Railroad. This railway continuously serves industries in west Youngstown and Austintown.
Economic Development Rail II Corporation
Formed in 1994 by the purchase of the CSX Railroad’s North Warren Lead. This 3-mile industrial railroad serves industries in Warren. Both railroads are operated by the Ohio Central Railroad System, a part of Genesee and Wyoming Company. Most recently, EDRIIC purchased 3.9 miles of Conrail’s Freedom Secondary Railroad in Warren and connected the two Warren roads together to provide improved rail service.
